
DeWitt first performed on stage at the age of 13. At 13, Dewitt began appearing on the stage. She received the degree of Bachelor of Arts from Ball State University. In her summer production she was encouraged by the director to attend UCLA's Department of Theater MFA Program. She was given the Master of Fine Arts Fellowship as well as the Clifton Webb Scholarship. Dewitt claimed she did not meet actor Abe Vigoda while she was at UCLA. She worked as an assistant secretary while at UCLA. The role she played by DeWitt as Janet Wood in Three's Company's 1977-1984 period is among her most well-known. She was selected for the pilot of the show and was offered the role. Janet was also featured in the episode of The Ropers in the year 1979. DeWitt was the only actor to appear in the finale of Three's Company's 1984 season. Then, she appeared in an episode of Finder of Lost Lovers in 1984. Following that she was off acting for many years. In June 1991 she returned to acting when she played a part in Noises Off at Michigan's Cherry County Playhouse. [1] Later she was a part of the TV comedy Spring Fling! Pinky and the Brain aired an episode in 1997 that featured a character based on her. The voice was performed partly by another actress. She appeared in an episode of Cybill and made an appearance on the last episode of Living Single. Her 2000s work include television shows like Hope Island, The Nick at Nite Holiday Special and Call of the Wild.
